Confidentiality and Its Limits
Your privacy is protected under California law and professional ethics. However, we are required to break confidentiality in these situations:
- Risk of harm — If you are a danger to yourself or others
- Abuse — If we suspect abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult
- Court orders — If a court legally requires records or testimony
- Insurance — Minimum necessary information for reimbursement
- Client consent — If you authorize sharing of information in writing
Telehealth Privacy
For telehealth sessions (available in California and Michigan):
- We use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video platforms
- You are responsible for ensuring privacy on your end (quiet, secure location)
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your health records
- Request corrections to inaccurate records
- Limit disclosures of your information
- Request confidential communication methods
- File a privacy complaint with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or U.S. Department of Health & Human Services if needed

Illuminate Psychotherapy® does not provide emergency services.
